The decorator has finally finished. Walls painted, woodwork glossed and fireplace revamped. We are very pleased with his work and waved him on his way yesterday. The photo's show a clutter but I'm looking forward to getting my new pictures on those red walls. The carpet is being fitted next Friday so have to wait another week before we can put the sideboard back against the wall and position other furniture too. We have a new dining table and chairs arriving on the 19th, just in time for Christmas. It's some transformation I can tell you. For those who saw it before you will think it's a different room.
Amy is off school today due to atrocious weather conditions. She's been playing hide and seek with the farmer all morning while she waits for me to take her out in the snow. It's probably too wet for a snowman build but she might get away with trying out her new sled down the hill. I don't like the snow. Never have. It's cold, wet and dangerous and I would rather it stayed away. When I was about 13 I got bullied by a horrid older girl at my school. The snow always reminds me of the time she walloped me with a huge snow ball and it cut into my cheek. It's funny how an experience in one's younger days can have an effect for years to come, if not for the rest of your life.

The colour looks great now!
Yes, I wish to sometimes escape the snow - so far we've had none in my little corner of the lake.
I tell you what, these horrid bullies, weak, nasty, belligerent and obnoxious deserve to be buried six feet under. I know I'm saying what you already know but it is a shame that this individual still haunts you today. They still have power over you to remind you of them and what they did to you. Here's a good tool - spend as many nights as you can just before you go to sleep visualising turning that snowball around and doing whatever you want with it to the bully. Make the outcome bigger and bigger in your favour each time and diminish the size of the bully each time as you do it. Because you are tired and ready to sleep, this image will start to embed itself in your subconscious. It takes work, as it is like building a muscle but it truly does work and eventually the horrid creature will no longer automatically come to mind if it does, you immediately picture it as you do in you dream and have a laugh about it – use humour id you can as that is such a great way to defuse the power someone has over you as a bad memory! It works, I’ve done it!
Glad Amy is having fun as there’s nothing as good a day off school when you didn’t expect it!
Wow!! The transformation is amazing! So very classy. Your friendly ghosts should approve!
What a fabulous advice of MOB (hey, I think you deserve a more respectful name!). Such old memories can torment you, but what a nice way to get rid of them. Will try myself! But I also don`t like snow and would never go on snow holiday!! Beaches anytime, but no skiing with me!
The colour actually looks like beet red now, doesn`t it? Pretty.
That shade of red is just gorgeous! It really shows off the wood work! Very nice! I love that feeling of having the hard work done and getting to "move in" with the furniture and pictures.
The red and white make a gorgeous and grand contrast. I can just see you all at Christmas with the candelabra on the table tucking into the turkey!! It looks fabulous.
As for the bully, I agree with MOB. I was going to suggest getting a real snowball and thwacking it hard at a wall, pretending you had just felled the bully. It is horrible to think that these mindless people can have such a hold on others for many many years.
That red certainly has deepened!
My kids would love it if they were off of school due to snow. Unfortunately no chance of that here!
That red turned out deep and gorgeous, and the fireplace looks completely different. It's all great. My favorite thing about the room, though, is that lovely sideboard. Can't wait to see pictures after your carpet goes down and the new dining set arrives.
Violetsky - I wish we hadn't had any!
MOB - Thank you for this advice. I have to say that the bully doesn't get to me now apart from the memory of snow balls. But I know if I spoke to a psychologist or someone in a similar profession they would tell me differently.
Willow - They better approve or they can clear off!
Angela - I'm afraid I don't care much for beaches either as I have a phobia of sand! The red is like beet red - it's very nice.
Betsy - I can't wait to 'move in', I'm so exited now to start using the room properly.
Rosiero - It does look white but it's actually called Jasmine white which is an ivory shade but the turkey sounds good!
Trixie - There wasn't any chance of my school closing either but up here the roads get pretty dangerous.
Kaycie - The fireplace does look different, still a bit ugly looking but a lot better than it looked before.
Thank you for your comments, CJ xx
Great advice from [MOB].
Room looks lovely. I had a sideboard like that many moves ago, finally sold it to a buyer when moving to a smaller house. Used to love polishing it.
Enjoy...what a Christmas you are going to have in that room.
I'd forgotten for a moment about your sand phobia - maybe in your mind the snow is just cold, white sand?
Has someone thrown sand at you, too? Or did you die in a sand storm in your last life? I never heard of such a phobia. You are full of interesting confessions, dear Crystal!
i hate the snow & cold. last night i was FREEZING and i live in cali where it's warm most days. i have thyroid disease so while everyone is 'o.k.' w slight cold i might as well be in the snow & cold cos that's how i feel when it gets below 75 degrees lol
i'm sorry about the bullies. time to forget them.
p.s. i am loving the room :)
How exciting to have it almost done! this is the part i would love, putting everything in its place and adding the things that really make it yours, family china,photos...
I hope you won't mind one more comment on the snow, maybe it would be best to forgive. Its possible this person has always felt bad for what they did.Who knows what her life may have been like.Sad.At any rate, I bet the snow looks beautiful(from inside!) over all those hills in your photos!
xx lori
Geli, you are so funny!
Love this color, CJ. Hate those bullies. And yes, isn't it amazing how one solitary incident can sit with us forever?
Looks fab! I love deep, vibrate colors on walls.
I LOVE it! The red is so warm and happy. Looks fabulous!
It looks great, Crystal!
I hope there'll be a real fire in the gorgeous revamped fireplace?
Amy might like the pictures on mine of Tessa B in the snow
xxPat
It is amazing the way that paint has changed from pink to deep red. That room is going to look stunning.
Looks positively regal! Glad it all worked out well.
Hope Amy managed to build a lovely snowman!
Bullies....... I wonder if they ever grow into nice people!
What a beautiful color! Your daring move to go bold paid off handsomely.
I have two questions: Is your house still haunted and are you planning to get another pony? A farm needs a pony.
We have a Warmblood mare, a donkey and a Welsh pony who sometimes agrees to pull a cart. They have fun together and I love them all.
Childhood memories can be very strong. Sometimes I have dreams about times from my childhood. They seem so amazingly real.
I do not like playing in the snow. I much rather be inside where it is warm.
I am looking forward to seeing this room when it's ready for Christmas!!
The finished colour is so beautiful! and the room is going to look so perfect!! So rich!
As for the bullies I think MOB said it all wonderfully!
I often wonder if these creatures ever look back on the things they did in the past and feel remorse... but somehow I doubt it.... x
Moannie - I was thinking about selling that one too but as it's a family heirloom and is actually quite ornate I have decided to keep it.
VioletSky - I don't know my mind!
Angela - I've never liked sand since being little! It's the feel of it on my skin. You will never see me on a beach without wellies or shoes!
Ciara - Don't like the sound of that my dear. I hate being too cold.
Lori ann - The bully had quite a sad time after she left my school as her dad died suddenly and she was only 16. So yes, I did forgive way back then but it still hasn't cured my fear of snow.
Country Girl - It is ridiculous really but we humans have tendancies to remember the worst incidents and forget the best.
Nick - Me too, very daring!
Kat - It does look warm and inviting.
Pat - As soon as Amy is home I shall take a look at your pictures.
Cheshire wife - I was stunned when I saw the difference. And very relieved!
Maggie - Regal. Excellent description! We didn't build a snowman as there wasn't really enough snow but Amy did have lots of fun.
judson - The house is very much haunted but I haven't written about it recently because something gave me the willies not long ago! And no, we won't be getting another pony. However, we have a spare stable and plenty of grazing so we might put word out to someone local who is looking for livery. The pony sounds wonderful being able to pull the cart.
Marla - I have dreams a lot about my childhood too. I was actually bullied a lot at school (I was too soft I know) and I have a recurring dream which contains two of the bullies, one of whom used to live near my mum and has the cheek to say "Hi" whenever she sees me!!
Pamela - Me too. I shall post pictures when it's ready.
The Brit - The colour looks even better in the flesh. I'm over the moon with it.
Thank you for all your comments, CJ xx
Oh perfect colour to complement pictures. And so warm and rich and comforting. Can you imagine how gorgeous it'll look in flickering candle light, too...yummy!
I was working in a shop a couple of years after high school with a woman who turned out to be the mother of a former classmate. I found this out when she mentioned to me that her daughter was embarrassed when she saw me at work with her mother (who talked about me alot) as she remembered being rather cruel to me in school.
So maybe....
It looks really good CJ!
Sorry to hear the nasty bullies come back to haunt you when it snows!! I like what MOB says :)
HI CJ - love the colour complete contrast to the snow! I'm not fussed on snow but on saying that this is the first time ever the snow has lasted long enough for my 2 to play in it, as soon as they go out I get the bath running andthe soup on as they only last about 30 mins before coming in freezing!! xx
looks quite incredible - and in time for Xmas too!
It's a badge for you! Head over to my blog to claim it! :-)
I knew it! The dining room is going to look stunning!
It's awful when old memories torment one for years, I think we all have them - the important thing is to find ways to get rid of them, so we can embrace life fully. Perhaps you should make a cut out of the bully and pelt it, together with Amy, with snowballs!
I don't like snow if I have to go out of doors, but I love to look at beautiful snow-covered countryside from inside a cosy house.
The room looks great.
I can certainly identify with how childhood (or even adulthood) bullying or such can leave an effect all our lives. I know what you mean.
Hope you do get some fun in the snow though. Perhaps Amy can help you build new, better memories around snow. It is, after all, a real bright spot in the middle of a dark dank winter. Have some fun sledding.
Hi Crystal, the room looks fantastic! red is supposed to be a good colour for your digestive system too, so I'm sure that you'll enjoy many happy family meals in that room.
Re snow, sorry that the bullies ruined it for you, and I too agree with MOB suggestion. there's also a thing called IET (google it) which is very good for getting rid of negative cellular memories. I'll send some when next doing it,if you would like it, mimi
Thanks, Mimi. That would be great and much appreciated.
Best wishes and thanks for all your comments, CJ xx
