I'm not sure whether I should be celebrating or not as this is my 500th post. I usually try to blog every other day but have managed to write something every day recently, which I suspect will now come to an end due to the lambing. Every other day will have to do for now, unless I have an interesting picture or vlog to show you of course.
There's hardly any time left before we start lambing. For the past few days I have been thinking about all the rest I won't get and the lack of sleep the Farmer will experience. Our new assistant, Emma, starts working for us on Thursday and I'm really excited about welcoming her to the farm. During the day my main job is to make sure Emma and the Farmer have a hot meal at lunch time which I suspect will be more challenging for me than doing the actual lambing. Amy breaks up from school next Thursday so I'll have enough on my plate then, trying to keep her entertained. It makes it ten times harder due to the fact that I can't drive; a quick nip to the beach or a swim at the local pool aren't options this year. My mum is coming for a few days over Easter which I'm really looking forward to. I haven't seen her for such a long time. She's already announced that she's bought us all chocolate eggs, and apparently Amy has been bought the biggest one of all.
But right now, I want to have a vote. I'm not sure my vlogs are as good as the written blog and I want you to help me make up my mind. I'm not talking about content, or the fact that I'm dying to laugh all the way through, but at the actual idea; having to make the effort to upload a vlog is far more time consuming than just writing something down and pressing the publish icon. My connection is pretty naff which causes pauses every few seconds and my worry is that if this is happening to you too, it could quite easily put the reader off. Please let me know your thoughts.
Variety is the spice of life CJ, and I love it! Besides, vlogging adds an entirely new dimension to blogging, and can be sooo revealing!
ReplyDeleteKeep it up! And keep up with the written posts as well.
Since I mostly read blogs at work (and share the office with a friend), I don't have the opportunity to watch vlogs. But in general, I think it is a good idea and might be entertaining when done properly (haven't seen any, so I'm speculating on this one.)
ReplyDeleteI agree with Dotterel, a bit of both please! I have really enjoyed your vlogs, and your writing is fab.
ReplyDeleteI like the occaisional blog - nice to put a face to the blogger but most of my blog reading is done on my phone so it can be easier to read rather than watch
ReplyDeleteI have to admit, I'm not a huge vlog lover as my pc is in the living room and everyone else has to listen too LOL.
ReplyDeleteThat said, I'd love to see a vlog of the newborn baby lambs if you get a couple of minutes spare to film some for us :)
Happy lambing
I've really enjoyed your vlogs. I understand, though, about them being time-consuming to make and some readers not being able to watch them.
ReplyDeleteBut I'm sure if you still do them ocasionally - like maybe once a month or so - it shouldn't be too much for your or your regular readers.
I've really loved your vlogs, seeing your farm and your daughter and your dogs and you of course!
Would love to see a lambing vlog!
Like Dottererl said, Variety is the spice of life. As I have previously said yours are the only vlogs I watch because theya re so interesting :D So I'd say stick with both :D
ReplyDeleteI love your blog and would love a Vlog of the lambing, but normally I am not a Vlog person, well at least not one that means having the sound on!
ReplyDeleteI love the vlogs!!!!!! OK..it's your accent I enjoy listening to ;-)
ReplyDeleteI love the videos! But I Also know it's time comsuming as well...
ReplyDeleteI'd follow you Anywhere though so don't worry about it!
All of us would!
hughugs
Variety is definitely the way to go:) Delighted to hear your chocolate drawer will get some filling up of the easter egg variety:) Jen.
ReplyDeleteAlthough the connection, whatever..is dodgy, I do enjoy your vlogs..as said by Dotterel, other dimension etc.. I'm really looking forward to more, especially a lamb related one..
ReplyDeleteTake care
The jury is still out for me as far as vlogging is concerned. I tried one of my own and my voice was out of synch once it was on youtube, so I gave up.
ReplyDeleteAs regards watching other vlogs, the short and sweet ones are good but some people's ramble on a bit and I just haven't time to sit through them.
Your vlogs are lovely but I agree with others here, it's the written word or the photos I like to see: the vlogs are a little treat now and again.
Keep vlogging! There's definitely space for both in a blog.
ReplyDeletePerhaps during lambing you could do some vlogging and if it doesn't get uploaded straight away, no problem. You know we're all interested.
I'm steering more towards the written word, a vlog thrown in every few weeks perhaps. Just want to make sure this blog doesn't become a bore. Always open for new ideas.
ReplyDeleteThanks for commenting, CJ xx
I enjoy your vlogs too. I think it would be nice if you could have one every now and then as I can understand how time-consuming it must be for you, especially as you are going to be busy.
ReplyDeletecongrats on 500...many never even get close. mix it up. the vlog is a good change of pace every once in a while.
ReplyDeleteI tend to read blogs more than watch vlogs but I'd love you to vlog a lamb birth - just make sure it's not too messy...you don't want unconscience bloggers slumped over their keyboards now do you?
ReplyDeleteI like your vlogs, and the occasional one would be nice, but honestly I would prefer to read one your posts.
ReplyDeleteBut whatever you decide to do will be great :-)
I'm a fairly recent visitor to your blogspace CJ and have enjoyed both but if I had to make a choice it would be the blog. An occasional vlog is lovely though and it makes it more personal somehow.
ReplyDeleteforgot to say - congratulations on 500 posts - Wow!
ReplyDeleteI love reading your blog but also enjoyed the first vlog, putting a voice to a face. The vlog could be used now and again to explain something really unuual (such a lambing) or complicated (that would take too long to explain in words). Otherwise I think mostly written blogs with the occasional vlog would be a good balance.
ReplyDeleteI'm steering more towards the written word, a vlog thrown in every few weeks perhaps.
ReplyDeleteYou hit the nail on the head! I enjoyed the first vlog, and will always remember the vlog of the puppies feeding time, but agree that your written word is great, so an occasional vlog would be fine.
And you would NEVER be boring, CJ.
You do both really well CJ, but for me the written word will always win. x
ReplyDeleteI have a confession. I read the bit about 500th post (hoorah) started scanning down the page. Saw the picci of the dogs and kind of got distracted away from your post. Having been brought back to reality by the comments can I say I am not a big fan of vlogs and much prefer the written word. Most Vlogs I don't even play **looks embarassed**
ReplyDeleteerm the comment from T was me btw. oops
ReplyDeleteHi CJ. This is my 1st visit to your blogsite. My internet connection is not fantastic and I find it a bit frustrating when 'youtube' just stops in the middle - so blogs for me everytime! You do a great blog! It's a busy time all round now. Hope everything goes well for you. Love the pics.
ReplyDelete500 posts - that's amazing! Personally, I would like a little of both - vlogging and written. My husband was watching Lambing Live with Kate Humble the other week - didn't see a single lamb being born!
ReplyDeleteCONGRATULATIONS KATHRYN, YOU HAVE BEEN PROMOTED :)
ReplyDeletehttp://williamm51.blogspot.com/2010/03/today-friends-i-would-like-to-introduce.html
Ever the animal lover, I'd really appreciate seeing lots and lots of photos of cute little lambs, in case you lack time or inspiration for writing something else. :)
ReplyDeleteYou could never be boring ;-)
ReplyDeleteI prefer the written posts with the occasional Vlog thrown in there x
Happy 500! Congratulations.
ReplyDeleteI love both the vlogs and the written blogs. I love the mix. Looking forward to more.
I enjoyed your vlogs but I personally prefer the written blog part. I often read your entries at work, when I have free time, and I can't really watch videos.
ReplyDeleteOnce in a while is ok, tho.
I have started to read your blog more often, because of the vlogs. They do load slowly, and I have ultra mega fast broadband but who knows I could be having down time. Keep it up I say, and the written we all like to read. having the vlog means my kids both come and also watch listen. So if you do it we'd love to see lambing ones or more of farm life that would be awesome!
ReplyDeleteRight then, here's the deal: I'll do an occasional vlog during the lambing but I'm going to stick more to the blog/written word. It is my favourite to be honest, being someone who writes.
ReplyDeleteReally appreciate your opinions on this, my blog is very important to me and even though no one has the perfect blog, there's no harm in trying.
Thanks again, CJ xx
First of all, congratulations on HOW MANY, goodness gracious! I enjoy both, honestly. I enjoy reading the way you write and listening to your voice. My only problem with a Vlog is the sound, I just can't turn it up any higher.
ReplyDeleteHave a good lambing season and Amy's break from school.
500th! Wow wee, well done you. Keep up the good work m'dear. Happy lambing. Loved Amy's post/story btw :) Oh, enjoy your Easter eggs ;-)TFx
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on 500! Impressive commitment! Know what you mean about the dodgy connection but do enjoy the vlogs - maybe they could be your special treat on slow days?
ReplyDeleteOh my, and I thought that I was busy! I will remember your schedule if I start to feel overwhelmed during the selling, buying and moving period.... all while keeping up on my 'paid' job and helping my asperger son with homework, etc.
ReplyDeleteYour pictures are great! I esp. love the lamb ones! :-)
Try and take some time for yourself when you can!! :-) ~ Coreen
Thank you for your kind comments. Those 500 posts have been created because you have given me the inspiration to do them.
ReplyDeleteLove CJ xx
Congratulations on hitting 500!
ReplyDeletePersonally I tend to skip vlogs unless I know they're on something I specifically want to see. This is because I read blogs in the living room normally while we're watching tv or late at night when I cant sleep but my baby is, so I tend to not watch them as a routine.
I love your vlogs, but why not just do one occasionally? Then they'll be a treat! After all, less is more!
