Friendly Chat

Over the last few years since I began blogging, I have become acquainted with many fascinating people.  When I first started out writing this blog I was often nervous about commenting on other blogs, wondering if I was saying the right thing; sometimes struggling to find the right words because I didn't know enough about the blogger.  But as time went by, I soon came to realise that what really mattered was my visit and appreciation of the post.  During the past 3 years I have read so many amazing blogs which have inspired me to write a post of my own, and some have even given me ideas of a post of which has turned out to be hugely popular; Amy's interview for one.  I have been incredibly honoured to receive awards from many excellent bloggers, and had my blog linked on many occasions; each time making me feel deeply appreciated.

I spend a lot of time blogging, getting to know people, most of whom I will never meet.  But last week when making my first vlog, I realised something very special: when I was talking to the camera, feeling a little like I was talking to myself, it came to me that I was actually talking to friends; my friends from around the world.  It felt personal, as if I had invited you into my home for a cuppa, and we were simply having one of our regular chats.  When a news reader reports on the days events, they talk to a camera, addressing the nation.  But I was addressing friends.  Even though my face was to be broadcast on computer screens across the globe, I felt as though I knew the people who sat in front of them.  That is the biggest reward I have had since I first created my blog in May 2007. And so to you, I wish to present an award. Please accept it and place it on your blog.  You all deserve it.

I love your blog. Your award is a great idea, I shall place it on my blog as a way of saying 'what a cool blogger you are!' x

  30. I've been missing our chats quite a bit. Hint.

  31. The Internet is a beautiful thing when it comes to meeting new people, isn't it! I have gotten to know many fascinating people from all over the world myself all thanks to the wonder of cyberspace. I love Facebook and blogging because it takes that next step past just sending an e-mail to someone; to me it only further helps to bridge the physical gap between us.

I love reading YOUR blog for several reasons. For one, I love learning about your part of the world - a place I am relatively unfamiliar with. I also like to learn about your life on a farm and as a parent of a child with autism. So through your posts, you are teaching me many things. I also like being allowed into your everyday life because, again, it solidifies our friendship. Sometimes, depending on what you write, I do really feel like we are sitting across from each other at your kitchen table enjoying a "cuppa" together. What's more, I know that you read MY blogs as well, and from one writer to another, the opportunity to share our creativity with each other is priceless.

Keep doing what you're doing, girl, because the rewards are endless! Hugs to you, Amy, and the Farmer! :)

  32. I love reading your blog and am amazed at how many postings you manage to do, but all quality! I often do leave a comment, as you will know, but sometimes I have to whizz through my blog list if I have to get to work. Thank you for the universal blog award - I shall decorate my little allotment with great pride!

  33. Not supermum - I am sure it will look just right on your mantlepiece.

Hayley - You have touched me deeply with your kind words. The feeling is mutual.

Jennifer - Glad you liked the vlog - will you be doing one?

Strawberry Jam Anne - New as we are to eachother's blogs, you so deserve the award.

Working Mum - Oh do you think I could tred the red carpet one day then! LOL

Mariam - Appreciation is very important when writing a blog, especially if it is written for an audience.

Magic Mummy - I'll be posting another vlog this week. Will look forward to yours too.

Beth - Ditto, the reading is the important bit, but do just say hi when you pop by.

Trish - Well what I can say. Do you like it? With your help I've altered the sizes and everything! Thank you xx

Aims - I hope you are okay; time has got away with me, but I think of you every day.

Sabrina - You are an amazing friend; your words are incredibly touching and I totally appreciate your friendship.

  37. Thank you so much!

I know what you mean about talking to friends through your blog. Now, sometimes whenever I'm working on a problem I find myself actually writing it in my mind as if I was writing a post to all my blog friends. It helps a lot.

  38. That is really sweet! Some of my closest friends are online, and I've never met them. My daughter even has an e-godmother, who has funilly enough had more to do with her than her real godparents!

  39. AAAH so sweet and I thought you looked v at home doing your vlog - almost felt as if I was sitting on your sofa - thanks for your comment - WHAT a nightmare losing kids is - I've done that before in Mothercare and once in Woolworths where I thought he'd disappeared down a lift shaft but was in fact hiding in the clothes section. Could have killed him Lx

  40. You are just so sweet! And, I'm so glad that I've gotten to meet you, if only just recently. And I look forward to more chats about our blogs and books! Thank you CJ! And I love cats, which you've seen mine on my blog too. :)

  41. Marie - You are another blogger whom I have followed more or less from the beginning. I feel as if I have known you a long time!

Amelia - Great to meet you xx

Tattie - Thank you for being loyal. I've known you a while now from Purple Coo as well as BMB, and general blogging.

Cheryl - It's a good feeling isn't it, to be able to invite so many people into your life yet always have a door you are able to close.

Luschka - I can relate to that too; never heard of an eGodmother but it sounds like a wonderful idea!

Family Affairs - yes, nightmare indeed. I bet you were frantic.

Thank you for your comments, CJ xx

  43. When I saw and heard your sweet face and lovely tones speaking to me the other week I did feel closer to you; despite the fact that we have only recently become bloggy buddies I have in fact seen your name often hither and thither (I love those words) for a long time.

  45. Great blog m'dear. Keep up the good work :-) TFx

  46. Now that was one of the kinder things I've read today :-) I'm very glad you've had such a good experience. I was just commenting elsewhere that, really, we have returned to an older template, here in the world of the internet, not created a new one.

I read a lot of memoirs, and biographies. Existing correspondence not only teaches historians much about the people they are researching, it becomes clear that the most important relationships in the lives of many were with those with whom they shared their thoughts and feelings fully (run, sentence, run!).

It is one of the oddities of modern life that people we encounter at the grocery store might judge internet friendships as not being real. If I run into a fellow (now former) lacrosse mom, and we talk about what our kids are doing now, is that any more real, or deep than having an exchange about the importance of your father in your life? That's what I just read below, and that was you handing out a little piece of what you are truly comprised.

We think of our real life connections as having somehow more import, because we know the person's tone of voice, manner of dress, choice of cologne. These are just the exterior details of life.

Via the written word, we tell people what truly matters to us. What remains after the exterior factors are stripped away.

It's every bit as real, and important as the more exterior friendships.

I'm very glad you have found friends, acceptance and caring out here, in the world where we have to express ourselves at a deeper level...in the things that go beyond, "Today, I'm wearing Juicy Couture perfume."

That says something about my nose, not about my mind. Thank you for sharing your heart, and mind :-)

  47. I think vlogging is way braver than blogging. There is a great feeling of community in the blogging world but a part of me wants to remain a little bit mysterious - the vlog feels v. exposed. But it certainly makes the sense of friendship stronger, like you get to know the person. I wish I had discovered blogging a couple of years earlier, when I was in the throes of the lonely mum-under-house-arrest years.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Elaine - Ditto xx

French Fancy - It's your turn next?!

Maddie Grigg - You're too kind, for reading my blog.

Debbie - Blogging can sometimes be a bit daunting if you're just starting out, but most of us realise that it's such a great way to make friends.

TF - Another one who I've known a long time through blogging.

Land of Shimp - Now that was what I call a comment. Thank you for your kind words.

Manicmum - You're right, and I think it is braver too, but it gives the reader a little glimpse into a life they would otherwise never get to know.

Thank you for your comments, CJ xx

  49. You really are one of the loveliest bloggers around. You made me feel very welcome when I started a few months ago. It's true the blogging community and the people you 'meet' are really special. Btw my dad has discovered your blog through mine and really loves it! He'll never comment because that's a bit too technical for him, but he loves it. Thought you might like to know.

  50. I think the fact that you have so many followers and literally tons of people commenting on every single post you write goes to show just how much everyone loves you and hearing about your life on the farm with the farmer, Amy and of course all those adorable animals.

You made me feel welcome from practically the minute I started blogging and I will always be grateful for that x
