A little view of the maternity ward
This is one of triplets. Unfortunately, one died shortly after birth and the other sibling will probably not last the day. However, this one seems to be feeding okay so we're doing everything we can to keep him fit and healthy.
And this is a single born yesterday afternoon, tucked into mum for warmth.
The ewes with orange and green tags in their ears are called 'Gimmers'. This is another name for a young female sheep reared for breeding purposes. We bought 40 gimmers in October last year and put them in the field ready to join the "Jigsaw Farm family"
I dedicate this post to the beautiful little sweetheart who is the daughter of Diary of a (not so) Single Mum and I promise to have a video for you soon.
How wonderful and how spring. We are off to look at the dafs in Farndale of wordswoth fame tomorrow
ReplyDeleteI love your little lamb photos. I wish I could keep one as a pet. They are so precious and the countryside looks so verdant and green and Spring-like, so different from London!
ReplyDeleteDear Kathryn
ReplyDeleteThis is Emily. Thank you for my lamb pictures, they are very cute! I love your dogs too!
Love
Emily xxxxxxx
Award for you over at mine!
ReplyDeleteDear little lambs. So precious. So fragile.
ReplyDeleteShame about us humans...
Lovely little lambs. Now I know it's definitely Spring, especially as I've just cut some daffodils from the garden and put them in a jug in the kitchen. I'm ignoring the fact it might snow here on Wednesday!
ReplyDeleteI can't get beyond the words'Little lamb, who made thee?'... and I don't mean I need a biology lesson...
ReplyDeleteIt's a wonderful time of year, new growth, new babies. Love the pictures, Kathryn. It's sad that one/maybe two lambs die. I couldn't stand the emotion of that.
ReplyDeletewhat cute pics...taking the boys tot he farm today to see all the new chicks...
ReplyDeleteThats so lovely! Thanks for sharing the pictures. Why did the triplets not all make it?
ReplyDeleteLuschka - Unfortunately, the other sibling died this afternoon. The one remaining is very small but lively. Mum is very sick but this can happen; we have to accept it.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comments, CJ xx
They are soooo cute. I would not be able to sell them on. I would make a terrible farmer's wife!!
ReplyDeleteawww lovely lambs so sad that some don't make it but that chap looks a strong little one so lets hope he makes it. Spring has finaly sprung!! xx
ReplyDeleteLovely pictures, you must be so busy at the moment!
ReplyDeleteJust one day, just one day on a farm like that would be perfect heaven!
ReplyDeleteBlessings, Star
really sweet, sounds like a lot of hard work, get some rest xx
ReplyDeleteThat maternity ward has a lot better view than the one I went to! If you've ever seen Roddy Dolye's "The Van", it's the same one!
ReplyDeleteLove the little lambs- they are just cute! I know you posted last year that they smell, but from here, with those pics, they're cute.
So sad about the triplet dying, and the second one being unwell. I hope that last little one thrives.
I'd never, and will never, make a farmer, CJ. I'd be bawling crying every time I'd lose one.
I started following your blog last year in lambing season because I loved your pictures of the lambs and your wonderful lambing stories. I'm so excited that lambing season is here again.
ReplyDeleteLove seeing these pictures, they are just so cute! By the way the surviving triplet is going for the food, he looks like a a little survivor to me. Let's hope he makes it okay. Keeping my fingers crossed!
ReplyDeleteMy goddness it is all go for you all at the moment. Enjoying the process.
ReplyDeleteI know it's all hard work... but you are one lucky girl!
ReplyDeleteSorry two died. Very cute
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, mum died too which leaves the little survivor an orphan. It's more work for us of course, but we have to try.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comments, CJ xx
Sniff sniff, for losing 2 lovely little lambs. I guess its the way of the farmer life though. Thanks for the pics, they are lovely.
